The Harry Potter movies were certainly very big, but I only ever got to photograph two, and I never got to photograph them from INSIDE the actual event. For ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ I had an out-of-London meeting that meant I couldn’t get to Leicester Square until about half an hour AFTER the premiere had begun.
There was no chance of getting a spot in a pen, but I did the best I could at the time.
Here’s how it went down - in widescreen’n’black’n’white ( while the original journal, in colour, and with commentary, is HERE) :
So… that was that. I was (very) annoyed at the time that my monthly out-of-town meeting happened to fall on the same day as a large premiere - this happened every now and then, but given the stars involved I was pretty glad I got ANY photos. However, it apparently rained very heavily in the afternoon buildup so at least I missed that!
Since then I went on to not-quite get into Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part2, arrive too late to get into Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (theatre opening), and actually amaze myself and get into Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Fantastic Beasts the Crimes of Grindelwald.
