25 Nov 2014 - The 'Unbroken' European Premiere

November 25th, 2014.

A mere 2 days after incessant rain cost me a 50mm f1.8 lens and a chance to photograph Kate Moss (I'll leave you to guess which one annoyed me more), I was back out again, on a day that the Met Bureau had proclaimed would be rain-free from morning til 9pm, which it then revised to 'raining every hour from noon til midnight except 10pm'... after which it proceeded to rain slightly for an hour.

Also.. there was a premiere on. Here's how it went down:

In the wake of the loss of my 50mm f1.8 at the "Paddington" premiere on Sunday, today I had a 10-20mm wide-angle lens so wide it literally sees inside itself. Wacky!

Your host for this evening, (once the jarringly-inappropriate-for-a-WW2-era RAP music ceases) will be the lovely Edith Bowman.

"White balance be damned, my hand looks AMAZING!!"

Our first arrival from the film is Ross Anderson who plays a character called 'Blackie' in the film. As per imdb, his filmography to date is limited, but per me that suit looks sharp. So well done, Mr Anderson.

Not one but TWO girls on the right are using selfie-sticks with considerable aplomb to photograph themselves with Ross Anderson. It's not so much that I wish I'd thought of that, it's that my camera and lens combinations would make such a thing tricky.

Our next arrival is Jack O'Connell, who plays the lead role of Louis Zamperini in this film. He was in '300 : Rise of an Empire' but other that film having Eva Green campily vamping things up, I don't really remember much else.

So... that's Angelina Jolie!..... and it only took about 100 photos at 8 frames per second to get a shot not blurry or obscured by people, security, guests or random passersby!

With Angelina Jolie thus photographed, I return to my 'primary 'spot, which has a partially direct view of the stage, which sadly a giant boom mike and camera is being made to hover at stars' face-level for.

"No, I haven't watched Mockingjay part 1 yet, and I won't be watching the last Hobbit film either. You know why? I'm sick of the greed, Edith. I even hear the third Avengers film is being internally sequelised and split in two. That's a sequel with ITS OWN SEQUEL, Edith. It's madness, and it's got to be stopped"

"I don't mind sequels, or sequels of sequels, or splitting sequels into sub-sequels. It's all more paid work for Desplat". Alexandre Desplat is this film's composer, and he's excellent.

"Which one of the six Oscar Nominations that didn't get me a statuette hurt me the most? Umm... kind of a devastating question to be asking me right now...".

"Nononononono.... Spock CHARMS Lizard, Lizard CONFUSES rock, and Scissors continues to CUT paper". I'm not entirely up to date on the rules of Scissors-Paper-Rock-Lizard-Spock, myself.

"I'm not answering a single question until somebody goes online and gets out the rules, Edith". Luke Treadaway is in this movie. And takes his games seriously.

The antagonist of the movie is played by the artist formerly known as Takamasa Ishihara, and now known by the name "Miyavi". I'll grant you it does sound cooler.

Once again arranging the collar on his jacket just so, "Miyavi" is now on stage, daring anyone to ask him about his Animation Department credit for the 2003 video game "Metal Slug 5". (Well played, imdb.com)

"Is that a screen grab from Metal Slug 5 or did the rules of Scissors-Paper-Rock-Lizard-Spock just get even more complicated??"

"I get it. The suit's green because I'm Irish". Actually, I think my white balance is a bit off. And Jack O'Connell was born in Derby, which is in England.

"The movie's quite serious, actually. There's a POW camp and everything". And the trailer does look prety good. Dramatic and stern, as opposed to hilarity-filled. (On which note.. where IS the director of this film?)

"I'm going to give you one more chance to reassess your opinion of 'The Changeling'." Well I for one liked that movie. If any movie's events could turn me into a vigilante, it would be that one's.

"What was Angelina Jolie like as a director? I'm going to say she was lovely, and let you decide whether it's because I'm being honest, or being threatened."

"That guy is fully trained on that boom mike, right? Because it's getting really low!". Don't I know it. I'll be putting my camera on the carpet and triggering it remotely if it gets any lower.

It's a $100 note but it would be unseemly to bend down and pick it up . Director Angelina Jolie turns left and heads off to the stage to be interviewed.

Some days, you're literally only one bald head to the left away from taking a good full-length photo of Angelina Jolie...

And some days, incredibly that same bald head is also on the right to block an alternative possibility of a decent shot of Angelina Jolie...

The size and severity of Angelina Jolie's security staff might even cause particularly hated African Warlords to think "kinda hard to move and/or look powerful with this many people around me..."

"No, there probably WON'T be a sequel to 'Gone in Sixty Seconds' called "Gone in 59 Seconds", even if they offer me the job of directing it" Damnit.... Vinnie Jones gets so few decent movie roles these days...

So.. that was that. Another premiere, another late night, and the ongoing question of not so much HOW am I going to get photos at the premiere of The Hobbit : Battle of the Five Armies next Monday... but rather IF I'm going to get anywhere close to that premiere.

I guess we'll find out. But for now, it's another premiere for "The Archive of Movie Premieres"

The last few of which included:

Paddington - featuring Nicole Kidman and Ben Whishaw
Horrible Bosses 2 - featuring Jennifer Aniston and Charlie Day
The Hunger Games Mockingjay part1 - featuring J-Lawz, E-Bankz, L-Hemz and J-Hutchz (?)

Until next time!
