12 Nov 2014 - The 'Horrible Bosses 2' World Premiere

November 12th, 2014.

It was a mere two days ago that I was part of the crowds packing the behemoth of a world premiere for 'The Hunger Games : Mockingjay Part1'... and now, a mere two days later, another world premiere in an even smaller and more intimate environment.

Except this time.... it wasn't half bad at all.

Here's how it went down:

Our first arrival isn't even in this film, but believe me if every premiere, event, and morning walk to the office began with taking a photo of Olivia Wilde, my days would be a LOT better.

Olivia Wilde has a choice of older bald/balding guys to smile at, and chooses me. Life, for want of a better word right now, is good. Her boyfriend Jason Sudeikis is in this movie, but his mane of hair is awesome and lustrous so you know it'll never last between them.

In contrast to most premieres, I don't have a long-range vantagepoint to shoot from for ths one. (That's.... not a complaint, except that as usual my lenses are mainly long-range.Oops!). Jennifer Aniston has arrived, to the screams of many, wearing what can only be described by me, a guy, as : a dress. More news as it happens.

"That TV show I was on? Oh, that was 30 Rock. But it was only one episode. I'm surprised you can remember"

"Based on your age, I find it hard to believe you're as big a fan of The Lego Movie as you claim".  I'm considerably older and it's my favourite movie this year... and I really liked 'Her', 'Captain America The Winter Soldier' and 'Interstellar'.... but only The Lego Movie was AWESOME.

Charlie Day was the voice of '1980s something Lego space man' Benny in The Lego Movie.

Not that I want to make this all about photography rather than (say, for example) the subject of this shot Jennifer Aniston - the actress I'm photographing - but this shot was almost entirely black due to the bright lights shining behind her : who knew the Nikon D700 had such recoverable image data (answer : I did... I just don't usually rely on it)

"I can't sign that - it was from my wild and experimental days and I've distanced myself from those times."

Abstract shot... taken because I was in the rare position of waiting for stars to get a bit further *away* from me so I could photograph them on my zoom lens.

It's pretty rare that I get this close to a star. It's kind of confronting, if I'm honest. Luckily there's about 30cm of lens and 10cm of weathersealed magnesium chassis Pentax between me and..... the possible evil (?) of Jennifer Aniston (?)

"Is This Far Enough Away For Ya?" Yes, thank you. Though if you could get Olivia Wilde to come back and come closer (in an entirely non-creepy way), that would also be highly appreciated.

"Just a small nap... it's been a really busy day. And after that, I promise I'll answer your question"

"I can't sign that... it's the front of your lens. How would you take photos with it?" Our last arrival from the cast is Jason Bateman, who was also at the premiere of the original "Horrible Bosses" and is one of three actors who were at my very first London premiere for Hancock, way back in 2008.

Internal Monologue : "I'm sure I recognise the guy with the Pentax... he dissed me for Charlize Theron at Hancock all those years ago". I don't regret that in the slightest, incidentally.

"What was Jason Bateman like to work with? Well... we called him Jason Batman alot. He said hated it... but deep down I think he was honoured"

"The Lego Movie paid for the extension on all four of my houses... but even I don't hold it in that high a regard". I'm not saying that it should get a Best Picture Oscar nomination... I'm just saying that if it did, it would not be undeserved.

"That man is pressing my ear. And do you want to know why? Because I asked him to. And do you know why I asked him to? To prove I could get him to do it."

Jason Sudeikis returns to do interviews, and I'm loving the vaguely "Only God Forgives" lighting scheme the rotating spectrum of lights sometimes throws out. Very classy.

"Cancel all interviews. I'm standing here until I see every colour combination these lights throw out"

"It was mesmerising, that's why. You just don't understand art, that's your problem. What was your question, again - do you remember, or are you distracted by the pretty reporter to your left?"

I'm sorry. I wasn't listening.

I'll be honest... that was a pretty fun premiere.. and a WORLD PREMIERE to boot. The wait was short but fun, the spot was good, and the photos turned out great. The secret? Nikon D700 with 50mm prime as always, but the Pentax K3 was left at home and the older, wiser, and in most respects better K5 was brought out of retirement for this gig. So this premiere? Joins its predecesor "The Horrible Bosses premiere" in The Archive of Movie Premieres

Until next time!
