6th Oct - The 'Love, Rosie' World Premiere

October 6th, 2014.

It was only yesterday at the Curzon Mayfair that I was at what was alleged to a be "World Premiere" but only three people from the movie poster showed up. For THIS World premiere, though? Pretty much EVERYONE showed up. Good times... did I mention the rain and the red carpet white balance issue, though?

Here's how it went down.

"Love, Rosie - "It's Never Too Late To Fall For A Mate". I'm almost certain that I was here already at this very cinema for the premiere of the same movie, but starring Daniel Radcliffe? I'm probably mistaken though.

Our first arrival is a little girl in a white dress.... but she's in the movie and her name is Lily Laight. Rather Awesomely (besides the name, which is already awesome), she also had a small role in Les Miserables (albeit not as the face of the girl on the poster, as I'd previously claimed/hoped)

German Director Christian Ditter is unlikely to have directed anything you've heard of (unless you're German in which case it's exponentially more likely... possibly logarithmically so). Also : I'm not particularly cultured, so if he hasn't directed one of the Die Hard films or something from the Marvel Universe there's every chance this is my fault, not his.

I'm not entirely sure whether this is actor Christian Cooke, who is in this film... but I'm loving the symmetrical way the tie-less shirt is unbuttoned on that pinstripe suit... in the absence of anything else to add for a comment at this time.

This Cecelia Ahern, the author of the book "Where Rainbows End" which was adapted into the movie "Love, Rosie". I'm not sure about the relative merits of either title. I'm going to admit : I got to see the movie at the premiere, and I don't think she ever sends anything that ends "Love, Rosie" NOR are there any rainbows in the movie, literal or metaphorical. It's a romantic-comedy, though. The action movies I prefer are usually much more plausible.

"My clutch purse is worth $5000 but my hairstyle is worth at least that much....". It's started to rain. Welcome to London in October

Next to arrive is actor and leading man Sam Claflin, best known for being in and pulling fantastic faces at the premieres of "The Hunger Games Catching Fire", "The Quiet Ones" and "Snow White and the Huntsman"

I'm less aware of the filmography of actress Tamsin Egerton, but I could quite easily be persuaded to.

"Gang signs? We got Ya Gang Signs right here!"

"How RED is that red carpet? What did they do with it?" This is model/actress Suki Waterhouse, who in my (completely worthless) opinion needs to ditch the blonde look and stay brunette immediately.

"Gang signs? I can do this one : it's subtle but that's the main reason it's so useful". And I'm taking notes.

And finally, wearing a dress so red it amounts to camouflage on this carpet (and is going to destroy the white balance on my Pentax), it's Lead Actress Lily Collins

And yes, it's started raining again. However, intriguingly there is evidence that Ms Collins' dress might be water-soluble.

"Forget the dress, get interviewing". I have not yet forgotten the dress, and neither has my camera, which is wondering what it's meant to be focussing on right now

"Country and Western Dance-off? Right here? Bring it!" Sam Claflin and another man's checked shirt take to the carpet.

The crowd parts kind of perfectly, and the world turns duotone blue and red. Something exciting has happened to the colour spectrum at Leicester Square, and I'm liking it. Also, Actress Lily Collins was in The Mortal Instruments movie, but I didn't watch it. I assume like every other 'YA" series, it involves the majority of (a) Vampires (b) Werewolves (c) Divergences (d) Games (e) Hunger (f) Dystopian Futures?

"That really, really, REALLY tall man over there might be indicating that this interview is over. And I'm not willing to take the risk that he's not authorised to make that call"

Kind of awesomely (although it's not fully pictured here), Sam Claflin high-fived wive and fellow actress Laura Haddock who was being interviewed separately next to him. Possibly the most romantic thing I've seen at a premiere, and easily putting all of my best romantic gestures for the past decade to shame.

Red dress, red carpet, red face reflecting off red dress and red carpet, and add in some dull tungsten lighting. If you're interested in how White Balance works on a camera, drop me a line, but in this instance it mostly involved crying and whimpering. Also, here's actress Lily Collins being interviewed (conveniently) right in front of me.

"Guys! See the movie - it's totally awesome. Or ask for free tickets if they're giving them away - it's an awesome movie. In either case, Lions Gate's cheque cleared and financially I'm covered!"

"I have been... and always shall be... your friend" Suki Waterhouse and Lily Collins stand in front of the Paparazzi and the resulting cacophony of flashbulbs puts most nightclubs in London out of business.

Weirdest and most random police line-up EVER! (As noted, I managed to score free tickets from the crowd and after being assured it included not one but four lightsaber duels, a helicopter chase and a shark attack, I gleefully rushed inside to find out I'd been given tickets to "Love, Rosie")

"I know what you're all thinking. If this is a comedy, why did they get a German to direct it?" HE ACTUALLY SAID THAT! Well played, sir.

There's a cast and a crew and I've got a bottle of water and free bag of crisps... and I'm putting the camera away now because there's still security and they'll maim anyone who keeps theirs out once the movie starts. Also : watch the movie : it's pretty good. Contains zero lightsaber duels and no shark attacks.

So... that, rather excellently, was that. Big thanks to Lionsgate for the tickets, and apologies for any disservice via this journal. It's certainly a good movie, and I'm nowhere near the target demographic for it, so that's pretty great.

AND it's a second premiere in two days for the ongoing and ever-growing "Archive of Movie Premieres"

Until next time!
