6 Oct - The BFI LFF 'Journey's End' Premiere

October 6th, 2017. (Again!)

Literally half an hour earlier I'd been about a ten minute walk from Leicester Square, at the temporary Embankment Cinema for the BFI London Film Festival premiere of 'The Meyerowitz Stories' with Dustin Hoffman, Adam Sandler and Emma Thompson. But with it being Friday, and with it being London Film Festival, and because sleep and getting home and to bed on time is overrated....

Here's how it went down:

Plan A was to shoot the event by standing on the sitting wall on the outside of Leicester Square, but that was blocked off because I think we all remember how hundreds of people died falling off it at the last BFI London Film Festlival. Sigh. So I'm shooting from inside the Park itself.

Shooting high and blind in the vague direction of the posing board isn't exactly resulting in the kind of photos I want to be posting here (except for the specific reason of identifying photos I don't want to be posting here, I mean)

More "Amazing" photos taken from within Leicester Square park. Looks like I'm going to have to overcome my dislike of... generally.... People and hit the Masses for some decent angles.

Still... if it all goes wrong, in theory taking photos from a slight rise in a park adjoining a premiere is possible. Sort of. (nb. I believe this is Saul Dibb, director of the film 'Journey's End' which is the movie that's getting its premiere here...)

"What's the movie about? Well... there's a journey. And there's an end. And some stuff in the middle. Speaking linearly in a four-dimensional sense, I mean" Unwilling to leave my 'comfortable' spot just yet, I take a photo of screenwriter Simon Reade (left) and producer Guy de Beaujeu (right)

My new spot is among bystanders, gawkers, passers-by and tourists, who will stop you doing what you're doing to ask you who you're photographing and you (later) say "Sam Claflin" look at you like that's clearly not a good enough reason, dude . Thanks for that.

"Is she still behind me doing that thing where she matches my expression from behind my back? I'm not saying she's not talented, but it is weird"

Toby Jones has his footprint in no less than three very large franchises - Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Captain America. Sadly two of those are finished and he died in the second movie of the third on the list.

"Favourite emotional moment during Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice? Well.... it's a long movie and when I went to the toilet afterwards I felt the kind of pure emotional release I've not felt for a long time" . I could probably update my movie references to "The Mummy (2017)" or the most recent "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie... but happily so few people watched those.

"Oh, hey! You're that guy that mis-attributes peoples' quotes on your website" . Eh. Everybody's lawyer wants to stop me. Fortunately my server is hidden in a hole in Algeria or Tunis or something.

"You haven't watched Suite Francaise?? You should - it's good! Also you should watch this movie" - Indeed Suite Francise is good : Saul Dibb directed it.

"Hey, check it out : you're smaller and two-dimensional on this phone!" "Wait til you see a movie in a cinema : it's gonna blow your mind..." Sadly, today was the release date of Blade Runner 2049 (which even more sadly didn't have a premiere) but "commitments" meant I couldn't see it. I've got my tickets for tomorrow.

"Well, it's a World War I trench warfare movie, so don't expect barrels of laughs....." Guy de Beaujeu is one of eight Producers of various flavours attached to this movie's imdb credits.

Simon Reade is the film's screenwriter.  And shooting through peoples' shoulders while people are getting excited about the imminent arrival of Sam Clafln is fun.

"Sure I'm good looking. But what about screenwriter Simon Reade? He's a very attractive young man, too" - Sam Claflin has featured in such films (and premieres) as "Me Before You" , "The Quiet Ones" , "Love, Rosie" , and three out of four movies in the Mockingjay quadrilogy.

"Well... you're all great of course, but the crowd inside are better dressed and they love me just as much or maybe more, and I intend to find out - catch ya!"

Catch ya indeed. We're four (wait... three...?) days into twelve days of BFI London Film Festival and I need sleep more than I need just about anything right now, up to and including a new (several) bottle(s) of Saaremeaa Estonian Vodka because cool as it is, I'm almost finished with the next best thing in a bottle on my fridge, and that's even harder to get. And these are my problems, but just for once adding new things to the Archive of Movie Premieres isn't one.

Until next time!

ps. If you want to know whenever I post one of these journals (occasionally I'm more legible, but in my defence I'm really tired right now and might eventually get around to editing / improving this commentary) - feel free to follow me on twitter @berndt2_photo, or on facebook at premieresdotco. Or just hang and chill for a while - there should be another one within 24 hours. Maybe.
