23 Sep - The Raindance "Bees Make Honey" World Premiere

September 23rd, 2017.

Although I had my doubts, an upcoming minor drought of premieres in the coming fortnight meant that I felt it might be worth coming in to town for the newly announced 'World' Premiere for "Bees Make Honey" as part of the Raindance Film Festival.

I've been stung by 'World' premieres before (and recently).... and here's how it went down:

We've hit that time of year where a World Premiere for a screening at 8:15pm doesn't get you daylight anymore. Or, in this case, a RedCarpet or Security or Wristbands or Public Pens either. Or more people than me and three people seeking autographs...

Raindance Film Festival is not as much a hive of dedicated activity as it is a small outpost in the middle of Vue Cinema. I'm getting flashbacks to the "World Premiere" of "Cult of Chucky" a few months ago, and those are not good flashbacks.

This is the Vue Cinema. Sadly the relatively newly insstalled LED screen is currently not broadcasting messages of hope, optimism or even random instructions to arbitrarily enter your Apple Account ID (because that's all my f**king iPhone seems to be doing when I want to make phone calls, send texts, or connect to wifi... you know, the kind of shit that doesn't even have anything to DO with Apple. Btw, F**k you, Apple)

Photo taken a few days earlier just prior to the Raindance Film Festival opening and World Premiere of 'The Lies We Tell'.... which I walked away from because this does NOT look like a World Premiere. Speaking of which : let's get back to this world premiere....

In the absence of anyone or anything to photograph at this point, I'm mostly just playing with low-light photography and seeing how far I can push high-ISO on the Pentax K-1 I'm using as they main camera at this one....

We have an arrival! (and therefore meet the minimum requirement for a premiere journal!!) - Wilf Scolding is not just in this movie, he's Rhaegar Targaryen in Game of Thrones!

"I don't really have time to chart out the full Targaryen family tree right now - also with the inbreeding is not so much a 'tree' as it is a kind of shrub-like intertwined ball of botanical yarn. Albeit a SEXY ball of yarn...."

"Anyway, always nice to meet a fan." "I'm not a fan of inbreeding" "... and fair enough"

Meanwhile, legitimate photographers with press credentials greater than the Cafe Nero Loyalty Card, NSW Drivers License and Book-Off Member Card I can muster from my wallet, enter the Vue to take up their positions, presumably somewhere upstairs...

As it stands, I am scanning both sides of a double-door entrance to the Vue Leicester Square. I've been standing here for half an hour or so and it's just additionally occurred to me that guests reluctant to be photographed could also enter the Vue behind me. Argh.

Take for example this guy. Or the woman he's with. Are they in the movie? I just don't know... but I have a new battery and lots of SD card space, so I figure Step1 is to keep taking photos, and Step2 is to check wireimage.com and see if, like a deep sea bathyscape with cameras pointing out into the murky ocean darkness, I've photographed something interesting or vital.

"Since it's just three or four of you I guess I can sign autographs without inconveniencing myself too much..." It's Alice Eve! I've photographed her at the premieres of Star Trek Into Darkness and Men In Black III ... as well as one particular GQ Awards.

"Pentax? Really?" Hey, I'm still stoked that as at right now, my *secondary* camera (and the one I'm using right now) is ranked FOURTH on the DXOMark Camera Sensor rating scale , and at a price that's about a third less than any camera above it, and cheaper than any of the next twelve below it.

"That guy behind you started typing about cameras, and I lost interest. Want me to sign anything?"

"I'm highly skeptical that they made a third Star Trek movie in the JJAbramsverse. I was pretty much accepted as a member of the crew after 'Into Darkness' , after all, don't you remember?" Ummm..... yeah .

"Where are the rest of the cast of the film? I'm.... kinda sworn to secrecy on that" - the information I had suggested that the attendees of the premiere would include director Jack Eve, Alice Eve, Wilf Scolding, Hermione Corfield, Trevor Eve, Jonathan Feuer, Laura Giovanni, Ivanno Jeremiah, Anatole Taubman and Josephine De La Baume. Sadly, other than Alice Eve I only know what one other person on that list even looks like...

Excitingly, this man has been identified as in the film.... and given he answered to the name 'Ivanno Jeremiah', that means either he's Ivanno Jeremiah (who is in this movie)... or... you know... not.

"Am I in this movie? Well.... sure. But the question you should be asking is whether I would claim to be in this movie if I wasn't. Sadly, I'm not answering any further questions" - of Ivanno Jeremiah's imdb credits, the most interesting is possibly one for providing additional voices for the game Mass Effect : Andromeda.

Smoking : Still Cool. Also cool : glamorous 1930s haircuts as worn by the lady on the right in the background.

And then I do what I often do - I checked on wireimage and saw who it was that I'd missed.... and went back into the photographs I'd taken, hoping against hope that maybe, just MAYBE, somewhere in the background, perhaps I'd find.... something unlikely.  .... Hermione Corfield, for instances, had worn a blue fuzzy coat so audacious I'd almost have to have photographed her, even subconsciously, unless something major had happened at the same time as she arrived....

... and amazingly it had.

When Alice Eve arrived, she was trailed by two ladies who were both in this movie : Josephine De La Baume and Hermione Corfield! Josephine de la Baume was in (and I photographed her at the premiere of) Ron Howard's "Rush" , and Hermione Corfield was in (and at), among other things "Mission Impossible Rogue Nation"

The presence of Alice Eve in the foreground is actually the only plausible excuse as to how I missed both Josephine De La Baume's hairstyle and Hermione Corfield's incredible Blue Furry Coat. (After this photo I sadly reoriented the camera to exclusively photography Ms Eve, subconsciously realising that distracting backgrounds needed to be removed)

.... and finally, at the trailing "G" of the reluctantly product-placed "Burger King" is Trevor Eve, who is in this movie; father of Alice Eve; father of director Jack Eve; and who has one Olivier Awards for both Best Actor (in 1982) and Best Supporting Actor (in 1997)

So... that was, rather unexpectedly, not the worst Red-Carpet-Less, Security-Less, Wristband-Less, Stage-Less, Public-Pen-Less World Premiere I've been at! (This year!). And that's considerably better than I'd expected coming in to this thing....

For now there aren't really any premieres scheduled until London Film Festival in about two weeks from now... so until then/next time!

ps. if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals, feel free to follow me on facebook at premieresdotco, or on twitter at berndt2_photo (unified branding : still a distant dream!), or I suppose you could shove an RSS feed on changes to my Archive of Premieres to see if anything's changed or been updated (RSS feeds... how DO they work?)
