15 Oct - The (BFI LFF) 'Snowden' headline gala

October 15th, 2016.

Now in its eleventh fun-filled day, the BFI London Film Festival offers up 'Snowden', the Oliver Stone-directed adaptation of the true story about the man who showed just how nefarious and insidious the collaboration of government agency and private businesses resulted in the overwhelming surveillance and data collection in all aspects of life..... the stunning revelation of which resulted most people happily continuing to post all aspects of their life on Facebook and cheerfully provide location and usage data in exchange for shiny new game apps.

Go figure.

I'm 100% against providing information on such things as my hobbies, personal preferences andlocation. Not because I have anything to hide quite so much as I don't want anybody to know how truly boring my life is.

"We're huge fan of... uh..... that movie you were in. The one with the guy in it." - our first arrival is Joeley Richardson, who among other films has been in the Roland Emmerich film "Anonymous" (where no major landmarks get exploded), and "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" (the American version)

"Dear NSA. I recently mistakenly deleted all data off my personal harddrive. Since I'm pretty certain you have a copy of it on your systems somewhere, I was wondering if you could help me use your copy to restore it..." - I still don't know why the NSA (and/or North Korea) don't make money on the side legitimately by offering failsafe (albeit invasive) commercial data backup solutions.

Elsewhere, above the crowd : what does a girl have to do and/or where does she have to stand to be discovered?

Rhys Ifans, who is also in this film, arrives. He is possibly best known as Luna Lovegood's father in the Harry Potter series, and/or Hugh Grant's drunken flatmate in 'Notting Hill'.

Looking precisely like the kind of dynamic leader who barely held onto the Labor Party leadership when he refused to leave, as well as a charismatic opinionated political powerhouse whose campaigning for the UK to stay in the European Union could at best be described as "mild and disinterested", it's Labor Leader Jeremy Corbyn.

"If you watch this movie, be prepared to re-evaluate your ideas of freedom, your degree of trust in democracy, your faith in political leaders, and your obligations as people. Ah... who am I kidding. You'd sell every scrap of data about yourself for the next big free app from Nintendo...."

"Yes, yes, I've heard of "If You've Got Nothing To Hide, Youve Got Nothing To Fear". But that's like saying you don't give a crap about freedom of speech just because you have nothing to say. And I've seen your twitter feed. You've got plenty to say. About stupid things, mainly. But still.."

So that was that. Only one day of BFI London Film Festival to go, and it's currently forecast to rain constantly all day. Will that stop me? History suggests not. I've got an Archive of Movie Premieres to feed, after all.

Until next time!

PS. Dear NSA and/or North Korean - if you ever want to know when I upload a new premiere journal, feel free to follow me on twitter at @berndt2_photo, or on facebook at premieresdotco. Oh, who am I kidding? You already are :)
