14 Oct - The (BFI LFF) 'It's Only The End Of The World' Premiere

October 14th, 2016.

About two hours earlier I'd been at the BFI London Film Festival premiere of Tom Ford's "Nocturnal Animals" featuring Amy Adams, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Armie Hammer. Now, after some refreshing relaxation in a calm environment, I was ready to head out yet again for this evening's second premiere, for Xavier Dolan's "It's Only The End Of The World"

Here's how it went down:

"So... anybody famous showing up to this?". This question irritates me considerably less than "who is Marion Cotillard?" and "Who is Lea Seydoux?" because firstly, movies exist. And secondly, the internet exists.

Girl With Red Hair And Attitude. Not sure if she's telling me to keep away from Her Man Xavier Dolan, or Her Girls Marion Cotillard and/or Lea Seydoux. Feeling charitable so will keep away from all of the above (plus I'm still on a high after finally properly photographing Amy Adams at 'Nocturnal Animals' about two/three hours ago.

"And we're absolutely sure I can't catch anything if I come into brief accidental contac with one of these autograph dealers??" Lea Seydoux asks a valid question. The Center for Disease Control is still working around the clock to answer that question definitively.

Lea Seydoux poses and smiles prettly, and Girl With Red Hair And Attitude turns out to have a little less attitude than first implied.

Lea Seydoux played the lead Bond Girl in last year's "Spectre", a movie I really liked in spite of the "Psssst.. he's totally not Blofeld / OMG - he's totally Blofeld" double-cross.

Lea Seydoux and Bump. (My keen knowledge of the female anatomy plus knowledgeable input from members of the crowd inform me that Lea Seydoux is presently With Child)

"What's "It's Only The End Of The World" about? Well... I can tell you that it's not part one of another one of those hateful teen / young adult series based on a trilogy where the last book gets turned into two movies. Also... what was the question again?"

"I'm glad I made it out of there. That was insane." Meanwhile, a greater level of insanity might be taking place on the left side with somebody holding up a Mad Eye Moody poster from Harry Potter.  Pretty sure that wasn't Marion Cotillard, fantastic actress though she is.

"None of us are smiling. Smiling is uncool when you're trying to be cool" True, but trying to be cool is inherently uncool. It's quite the Mobius Strip of Intended Coolness we've got here. As well as director Xavier Dolan, newly arrived..

"All right. Now that Xavier's gone to do interviews, you can tell us we're the best-looking two out of us three"

Cute reporter lady who might or might not have gotten dissed by Tom Ford at the last premiere is also at this premiere, trying to rebuild the shattered fragments of her ego after having it cruelly destroyed. Or... she's just doing her job and I'm reading too much into things.

"Just because you can tell a lady to look Over Her Left Shoulder (,Darling) doesn't mean you're a Pro, kid." Though, yes, it means you're on your way.

"What does a producer do? Like, seriously, or are you looking for a soundbyte along the lines of 'dress up prettily and go to premieres'?"

"Don't you dare edit that soundbyte" - Nancy Grant, coincidentally, is a producer of this film.

Xavier Dolan's imdb listing shows considerable merit in both acting and directing, along with Jury and Grand Jury prizes at Cannes, a Cesar Award, .... and a Golden Puffin at the Reykjavik International Film Festival. And if that's not the cutest trophy in the world of film, then damnit it should be.

"I get the feeling you're more interested in recording my answer to this question than what the answer itself is. But it's just a feeling, really"

So... that's another one done, as BFI London Film Festival continues its march towards this Sunday's closing Gala, and the sleep I'd be getting if it wasn't for the four premieres in four days scheduled immediately after. But it's all good - I'll sleep in tomorrow, which is great - plus it's another entry into the ever-growing "Archive of Movie Premieres" - which I think passed 400 with either this premiere for "Nocturnal Animals". (Woo - can't wait for the world's media to celebrate the milestone)

Until next time!

ps. If you want to know when I post one of these journals (trust me... it's not as often outside of London Film Festival) - feel free to follow me on facebook, or follow me on twitter, or possibly both (facebook typically gets the notification sooner, but twitter gets it at a more convenient time)
