23 Jun - 'The Green Inferno' Apple Store Event

Jun 23, 2014

Back in 2013, director Eli Roth made a Cannibal Movie for a company whose subsequent bankruptcy made the film unable to be released until 2015. I guess it makes sense, then, that this 2014 Apple Store Event hasn't been journalised til now (2017). And I'd like to think I planned it that way.

Here's how it went down:

"If you're well-behaved, maybe our two guests will answer some audience questions later. And if you want to know where I got this sweet General Zod t-shirt, you'd better be even MORE well-behaved"

"Is this movie a good Mother's Day gift? Well that depends on the relationship you have with the woman who gave birth to you. In my case, absolutely. But I'll let Eli answer that question"

"So it's an R-Rated Cannibal movie..... what was that like to make, like on-set?"

"Well I was originally going to make a cannibal movie that was G-Rated, but then I figured 'why bother?' "

"To be fair, Disney gave you some excellent pointers on how to make your script even better. And sell more Merch in the process"

"And then we approached McDonald's and asked them if they wanted to do a tie-in Happy Meal deal..."

"If you're anti-cannibalism, Vegetarianism is not the answer people - Veganism even less so!"

"The point is : stop complaining about how hard it is to make your movie and just FRIKKIN MAKE YOUR MOVIE. Nobody can stop Michael Bay and Lars Von Trier, so what's your excuse?"

"Bay and Von Trier. In the same sentence. Where were you when that happened? I was right here, sitting next to you"

"What about a cinematic universe? Or at least a sequel called "Leftovers"?" - <trademark> <copyright> premieres.co.

"Is the theme of cannibalism a metaphor for the resource-hungry commercialised western obsession with consumption placed onto a primitive culture as a form of irony? Or did you just want to gross out people?"

So, that was that. And I say it was worth every one of the years I waited to post it! And if finally joins the rest of the fold of Apple Store events (which they don't have any more these days.....) like Hector and the Search for Happiness, Begin Again, Pride, and Haider..... in the archive of movie premieres

Fare thee well, Apple. I hope you're doing well in any other fields you choose to compete.

Until next time!

ps. if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals (almost always on the same evening as the premiere, but who knows... sometimes I think these things need time to ferment), feel free to follow me on facebook at premieresdotco, or on twitter at @berndt2_photo.
