22 May - The 'What to Expect When You're Expecting' Premiere

May 22nd, 2012.

Okay, so I'm a guy... and as a consequence this movie is not exactly on the short-list of films I'm desperate to go and see. Not while I still have to watch 'Inception' five or six more times.... and each of the two Chris Nolan Batman films three or four times to prepare myself for the third film, out in July.... Hell, I might even be convinced to watch Piranha 3DD, or "Snow White and the Huntsman" or "Men in Black III"

Where was I?.... Oh, yeah. A movie I have no intention of watching. Still... that by no means implies that I wasn't very much looking forward to the premiere! I was... and here's how it went down.

So I hear Cameron Diaz is now bringing her own security to these kinds of events. The premiere was at the BFI Imax, which means uniquely you can have your view impeded by hanging vines and trellises whether shooting from below or (later) above.

"Hey, I forgot to bring a mobile phone or camera, so could y'all just email me the photos of me and Chace Crawford you're taking?" Chace Crawford is so hot right now. Chace Crafword.  (He's in Gossip Girl. But... like... how would I know that?)

Our second arrival is Matthew Morrison, who plays a teacher in Glee. But .... like.... how on Earth would I know that? (IMDB, people.)

I like the idea that random people manage to get Chace Crawford (so hot right now) to pose with them. But apparently this is the director of the film, Kirk Jones. (Actually, that makes it even more amusing).

I have (had) no idea who Rodrigo Santoro is, and indeed I spent more time photographing his (male) assistant as he was more flashily and outrageously dressed. I've since checked IMDB, and not only is he in this film, he was also Xerxes in '300'?? (Wait... how? He was like 8 foot tall and mostly computer graphics and weird piercings!)

I have no idea who this is, or whether she's in the film. But at this stage neither Cameron Diaz nor Cheryl Cole had arrived, and I was photographing anyone in a dress and not Misters Morrison and Crawford.

Anna Kendrick has a minor recurring role in the Twilight films, but don't hold that against her - she's also in Scott Pilgrim and Up In The Air, and one if not both of those films are very good

"I'm pretty sure I never posed for a centrefold.... oh. Okay. My mistake. Sure, I'll sign"

It's Cameron Diaz!! I think it was Tyra Banks who said that a model who always looks like she brings her own wind machine will have an advantage. And, sure, you may ask how I would possibly know about anything Tyra Banks has ever said....

OMG, it's Cheryl Cole, for whom the loudest high-pitched screams (from both girls and - awesomely - dealers) were unleashed!!! That aside (and she is pretty), I'd like to draw your attention to (a) The dude at the top right who seems to be singing a hymn (b) the dude at the back wearing a Michael Jackson's 'BAD' logo shirt, and ( c) the girl with the Back to the Future II Marty McFly cap! It's all happening at the BFI Imax. There is no place cooler right now... we haven't even gotten to the girl with the green hair yet!

When Dresses Merge. Cheryl Cole has only a minor role in the film but you wouldn't know about it based on the decibels of noise that accompanied her arrival vs Cameron Diaz's

"I'm double parked? Really? Can I afford to just abandon it, cause I really can't be bothered digging out my phone and paying the fine...." I last photographed Cheryl Cole from above street level when she was besieged by a massive crowd outside BBC Radio1 in a photo I call Crush

Tries to figure out whether her attire is fundamentally similar enough to what Cameron Diaz is wearing that one of them will have to run away in tears and come back wearing something different to the afterparty.

Cameron Diaz isn't everyone's cup of tea, but even if you dismiss The Mask and There's Something About Mary, come on. She was great opposite Al Pacino on "Any Given Sunday" - possibly the one movie she was in that almost nobody watched.

Not so much a premiere photo, more of a 'stock footage for the zombie documentary journal I'm putting together' type photo.

" Fine. 'Betty Davis, we love you, Ladies with an attitude'. Are you going to ask me about the movie now, or what?"

The dude in the pink jacket is making me want to convert every single shot he's in to black'n'white, but I don't want an all-black'n'white journal.

Other than the subject(s), the main interesting feature of this photo is that it was taken shooting downwards through a vine/trellis at the BFI Imax. Photography from ground level is for chumps 8)

Shooting from one level up means rarely getting eye-contact. Rarely, but not never.

"So I notice you're pretty much all male photographers. Are ANY of you going to be watching this film? Thought not..."

So... that's another one "For the Archive of Movie Premieres", where all of these go.

Until next time!
