18 Oct - The Rolling Stones' "Crossfire Hurricane" Premiere

October 18th, 2012.

So, it's a Rolling Stones premiere. The crowd was big(ish) and younger than you'd guess, but not that young (obviously - the kids are all into Bieber and Britney and rap music and stuff). And I had a spot next to a man with a Stones badge collection all over his coat, wearing a hat with Stones badges and LED lights, and who ran a Rolling Stones Museum in Luchow, Germany.

And though I'm not even somebody who'd class myself a fan of their music (or the Stones themselves, given their legal team is responsible for more of my not-for-sale-photos being removed from Redbubble than any other artist because they're a bunch of clowns who are too busy flexing their egotistical muscle than actually realising how DMCA works, and Redbubble are too cowardly to stand up for Artists) , here's how it went down:

T-Minus 2 hours. Security on the balcony overlooking the Odeon Leicester Square probably have a combined age less than any one of the Rolling Stones. I'm sure they're thrilled.

T-Minus 1 hour. ...better than calling the film "Raised by a Toothless Bearded Hag", which is another lyric from the same song...

T-Minus 20 minutes : The Shooting Gallery.

T-Minus 18 minutes : The Optimist's Gallery. With respect, if you take an iPad to a premiere as your primary shooting device, you're a w@nker. Because one day I'm going to bring a webcam enabled 42 inch Plasma TV to a premiere and use THAT to take photos, and when I do I expect to be called a w@nker too.

T-Plus 5 minutes. Lens Flare Porn. Might as well, the red carpet is flocked with security, attendants, hangers on and VIP photographers and everyone holding up phones, cameras, ipads and giant easels they're using to paint the scene live at it happens...

Stone #1. Hey, check it out! It's Mick Jagger. To give the man some credit, it's amazing he can walk so sprightly, let alone do two hour concerts. And he walks? With Aplomb.

Stone #2 - It's Ronnie Wood. And his 'plus one' appears to be young enough to be MY granddaughter.

"I think Obama definitely won the second debate. Now where's my schnapps?" Keith Richards is Stone #3 at this premiere

Dear Bravado International. I took this photo and it's not for sale. *DMCA this* like you did my Killers and Ronnie Wood shots, and the Lady Gaga shot (which after three months Redbubble STILL has not reinstated) and you'd better f**king Lawyer up. Anyway - Mick Jagger! He's heading our way!

"Abbey Road? I don't think that was us, sorry"

"Terry, sign this for me. My hand's shaking a bit" It goes without saying that I'm getting to know a whole heap of autograph dealers in ways I'd rather not as they clamour physically to get closer to Mick Jagger. Must start plastering my jacket with glass shards and rat poison....

"Peace out, y'all. Me and my hip flask are gonna hit the Pepsi Stand, if you know what I mean"

Ronnie Wood. Possibly being kidnapped and being forced to watch the movie he's in at his own premiere, poor guy...

Jerry Hall is one of two ex-Mrs Jaggers, but also The Joker's moll Alicia in Tim Burton's Batman. And that's not uncool.

"Humans and Dinosaurs, two species separated by 65 million years, suddenly thrown into the mix together. How can we have any idea what to expect?" Ex-Oasis' Liam Gallagher has watched that movie too!!

The guy I was standing next to was eye-catching enough that organisers sought him out in the crowd to give him a free ticket to the film. Well played, Sir, on your years of dedication.

"You know, I don't think this is the premiere for the Korean Anime we've got ticket for..." I don't know who this is.

I don't know who this is either. But I like the sense of fear as if any woman of any age could theoretically be afraid of a candid documentary on the Rolling Stones.

Victoria Pearman is a producer of the film. She says she's an advocate of dancing and ultraviolence against vile thuggish Autograph Dealer scum. One of the two.

Colin Firth walked the red carpet more or less like a regular person! (meaning : he wasn't clutching his Oscar for The King's Speech or anything classless..)

I'm guessing that this is Director Brett Morgen. I don't have a comb to spare, my hairline's kind of been receding since the late 1990s.

It's genuinely nice to see that Hagrid's doing well for himself since Hogwarts closed for the winter break...

She's one of the organisers (Director?) of the London Film Festival. Sorry about the black'n'white conversion. It makes for a nicer portrait but it means you don't get to see the dress/cloak she was wearing, which looks like it was made by a Peruvan quilting gang.

Desperate times : I'm shooting through streaky glass of the Odeon Leicester Square. They coulda cleaned that for the premiere, no? (Also : the Odeon Leicester Square has a BALCONY! Why does nobody except Men In Black III actually put their stars on the balcony??)

I loved you in Pirates of the Caribbean 3! Well.... you and Hans Zimmer's score. The rest I can pretty much leave.

Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman. (Isn't it past their bedtime?)

Mick Jagger (not pictured) and Charlie Watts (above) left early. And, well, at least I got an unobstructed view of ONE of the Stones.... and then I went home.

So... that was another one. London Film Festival is winding down, but overall it's been pretty good with premieres forFrankenweenie with Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter, Blood with Paul Bettany, Ginger and Rosa with Elle Fanning, Rust and Bone with Marion Cotillard, Antiviral with Sarah Gadon, Quartet with Dustin Hoffman and Maggie Smith and Argo with Ben Affleck and John Goodman....  and I haven't even had time to upload the journals for Bill Murray and Helen Hunt's films! (Though I have now - here's Bill Murray's and here's Helen Hunt's)

Until next time!

By the way, if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals feel free to follow me on twitter @berndt2_photo or on facebook at premieresdotco.
