16 Oct - The BFI LFF 'Hyde Park on Hudson' Premiere

October 16th, 2012.

I'm sitting here, over two years later, never having previously uploaded this journal prior to now. I'm guessing I was so busy updating the prior journals, and then dealing with the premieres of Argo, Crossfire Hurricane and the BFI Closing Gala Great Expectations... and I even went to see the Five Captains Star Trek Thing at the Excel... and then there was Skyfall a mere two days after BFI LFF closing.

And then there was all of 2013 and much of 2014....

Look, I've been busy...

Here's how I recall it going down:

It's BILL MURRAY! I've never photographed him before. This is a big deal (it's such a bit deal I've momentarily forgotten that I photographed him at the premiere of "The Fantastic Mr Fox" back in 2009).

Right now from where I'm sitting I really don't know whether this is a gopher from Caddyshack or a groundhog from Groundhog Day that a particular fan wants Bill Murray to sign / hold / pose with / take with him. (this is why I take a camera to premieres : much less ambiguous)

"I'm pretty sure I'm Samuel West, and a quick scan of my filmography reveals no movies I'm likely to have seen him.... I mean ME.... in"

"Yes... having "Van Helsing (2004) as my most noteworthy accomplishment on imdb.com in 2014 would be seen as a bit of a setback". I'm sorry. I'm sure 'Mr Selfridge' is a fine TV show (but at the time I took this photo, that show hadn't yet started... ) (I really have to stop polluting the timestream with these comments made years later...)

It's Bill Murray!! He's probably not as excited as I/we are because he hangs around the guy, like, Every Day.

"I'm charming, personable and easy to get along with. It's exhausting!"

I was going for a bit of an 'overcrowded Tokyo / Lost in Translation vibe'. Not sure it worked.

"I'm sorry. All I can concentrate on are these Cheap Theatre Tickets. You guys got 'Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark' yet?"

Random attendee : Ralph Fienness. I... kind of feel like I could have gotten a better photo of him than this. But not a more evil-looking one, that's for sure.

"I'm just going to stand here in the dark and you can photograph me if you want to... or not. Thank you, lady with mobile phone in the background"

"You guys should have photographed Samuel West while you had the chance. He's going to be great in Mr Selfridge"

"Your opinion on the artistic merit of Ghostbusters II is noted, however I'm rich and more famous than you... and no I'm not signing that, in an unrelated matter"

I'll risk polluting the time-line a bit further and state that until the Die Hard / Live Free Or Die Hard premiere next year, I don't think I've ever felt quite so scrutinised by a major star before. However, I'm hidden behind a Pentax DSLR for this shot, so perhaps Bill Murray merely has never heard of the brand.

So... that was a premiere I'd never journalised before. I recall that Bill Murray didn't sign much (he's kind of cool / arbitrary like that) but as usual my mentor/sensei Mo got his item signed by the man. And immediately after this premiere at the Empire Leicester Square, there was another one across at the Odeon West End that I also haven't previously journalised.

Let's see what I can (re)create about that one...

Until next time, and for the first time ever, a mere two years late, this premiere finally joins the Archive of Movie Premieres

By the way, if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals feel free to follow me on twitter @berndt2_photo or on facebook at premieresdotco.
