13 Oct - the BFI LFF 'Ginger and Rosa' Premiere

October 13th, 2012.

It's London Film Festival 2012, and that means more premieres than usual. I've already done the premieres of "Frankenweenie" and "Blood". The downside this time of year is a slightly greater chance of rain and low light. Today, both those things happend BUT to compensate there were TWO (two and a half, really) premieres, same location, an hour apart. Good times.

The first was for a movie about two teenage girls living in London in the 1960s, and something about the Cuban Missile Crisis (?). Okay, then. Here's how that went down:

Thanks for the multiple premieres, BFI!!

It started raining with an hour and a half to go, so I left my spot to get an umbrella just in case this thing got all Biblical. It didn't, but then I also didn't lose my spot in line. To celebrate, here's some Art. By which I mean "Art". Bring on the premiere, already.

To put this photo into context, a relatively well-informed Autograph Dealer had claimed a week ago that Elle Fanning was not going to be in London for this premiere, leading me to suspect that these guys were like her Twitter friends or something. Fortunately, the guy was wrong. (Woo! Elle Fanning!).

And it's only been about a month since I photographed her sister Dakota at the premiere of "Now Is Good". But Elle was in Super8, whereas Dakota was in TWILIGHT (I'll leave it to you how I rank the two sisters)

Security Dude clearly doesn't believe that I've watched Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere" starring a 12 year old Elle Fanning, as well as JJ Abrams' "Super8". But I have. Both were good, and she was great in both.

"Y'all are gettin' one hair flick each. Then I'm heading over to the Dealers and signing some 5hit". I'm just guessing at what she said. All I know is that she has a lower-pitched voice than I'd expect from a 14 year old. In case you find that interesting.

Sally Potter was the writer and director of the film "Orlando" which I didn't watch, and the intriguingly titled documentary "I am an ox, I am a Horse, I am a Man, I am a Woman" which I also have not watched, and is intriguing in an I'm-not-really-going-to-hunt-it-down-at-my-local-Blockbuster way.

"Ken, stop playing RidgeRacer and film the red carpet, okay?"

"And if you want a better portrait, you're going to have to find one of those guys on the other side of Leicester Square who'll do them for ten pounds or something, okay?"

"While I never watched Australia's 'Sale of the Century' or 'The New Price is Right', I assume the girl in the giftshop would pose with the prizes something like this?" Yep. Spot-on.

Elle Fanning : "Whee!! I could do this all day!!" Ms Fanning's Assistant : "And I'd stop you"

I like to think Timothy Spall is packing an Uzi 9mm to Red Carpets just because security might be a bit lax. But I have no evidence to back that up. The distinctively-faced Spall most famously played Peter Pettigrew ('Wormtail') in Harry Potters 3-7b.

He also played Winston Churchill in 'The Kings Speech'. So... he's versatile.

"These guys say they're involved the film, but I don't believe them". Believe it - the one in the blue shirt is producer Andrew Litvin and the other one is producer Christopher Shepherd. I do intend to play the "I AM a producer" card one of these days, though.

Apologises for forgetting the five dollars she owes me.

Not sure about the five dollars she loaned off Elle Fanning...

"No, I DON'T have a hunchback... this is how all kids wear their jackets these days, GRANDAD". Oh, ouch.

In amongst all the photos of Elle Fanning ("Rosa"), I should at least post a few photos of the later-arriving but no less important Alice Englert ("Ginger") who is also in this film.

Alice Englert ("Rosa") joins Elle Fanning ("Ginger") in posing for the paparazzi. Weirdly, where Elle was in a movie called "Super 8", Alice's credits include a movie called simply "8".

"That guy over there wants to ask you some questions about Greek austerity measures for the Eurocrisis. You've been briefed, right?"

The Guy in the back is playing accordion on his laptop. Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did.

So... that was another premiere, and the good news is that a mere ninety minutes later, there was another one! So... only briefly : Until Next Time!

Does it join the Archive of Movie Premieres? Yes it does!

By the way, if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals feel free to follow me on twitter @berndt2_photo or on facebook at premieresdotco.
