10 Oct - The BFI LFF 'Frankenweenie' premiere

October 10th, 2012

Incredibly, it's been A MONTH since my last premiere which was for "Now is Good" and even longer since the last premiere in Leicester Square - "The Sweeney". But now, to coincide with London's cold / dark / wet season, it's London Film Festival Time!!

And to open the festival, it was Tim Burton's latest - Frankenweenie.

Here's how it went down:

Hee! 'Weenie'. (That is all).

If your plan was to get Helena Bonham Carter's attention (even if she's not on The List to attend) this is a worthy strategy. Might be enough to get her to come, actually.

We start proceedings with a fashion show in monochrome. And... damnit, somebody stole one of my ideas again.

"I'm just going to do the thing with the guy in the place over there. But I'll be back" Tim Burton has arrived, and we've all heard that before. (To his credit, Tim Burtin DID be back!)

"You! Yes, YOU! You frighten me. And I directed Sleepy Hollow, which is saying something."

Don Hahn produced Frankenweenie, as well as many other films like Nightmare Before Christmas, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and The Lion King. (The lens flare in this photo had several cameos in the most recent JJ Abrams Star Trek film)

I have been reliably informed that Don Hahn is "the only producer for animated films to earn an academy award nomination for Best Picture" (for Beauty & The Beast). I don't even know what the means, entirely. But starburst camera flashes are kind of My Thing, as has been demostrated before.

Dual symmetrical flashes captured!! Forget the possibility of Helena Bonham Carter coming, my work here is DONE. (I ain't going nowhere...)

The awesome Martin Landau's film career spans back in time longer than some of the more obscure European nations. Among some of his more recent roles, he was in the TV series Entourage (Is that the kind of thing you might be interested in?)

Martin Landau won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for 1994's (Tim Burton's) Ed Wood. Also : a hounds-tooth scarf? Class

"Really? You liked my version of Planet of the Apes and aren't just saying that because you want me to sign four postcards so you can sell them on ebay? Cool!!"

Sure Martin Short was one of the three Amigoes (and an integral part of the Martin Short TV show), but did you know he was also in an episode of Law and Order : SVU back in 2005? And that he owes me five dollars?

"I'd give you the five dollars, but as you can see I'm kind of surrounded by tall people right now"

This pseudo-silhouette of Tim Burton would be _*nothing*_ if not for the thin sliver of light on his left shoulder. (I think).

Three Amigoes also moved me on an emotional level.

Helena Bonham Carter DID notice the girl dressed up as the Queen of Hearts and came over to give her a hug (!). And, for fans of her ring (with thanks to the dealers who shoved dozens of photos over, around and through me), here's a mis-focus shot of her that highlights it

"I hope you got that because I'm not posing like this while you wait for it to happen again". This Nikon and its 50mm prime are doing some stellar work on these starbursts (by which I mean ME... I'M doing stellar work on these starbursts) (somehow)

So... that was okay. Kind of nice to be doing one of these again. Things were getting so quiet on the One Photo Per Day front without premieres or Olympics I've been reduced to taking occasional photos of myself and far more shots of cigarette lighters than it really makes sense to!

Does it join my ever-growing "Archive of Movie Premieres"? Yes. Yes it does.

Until next time! (Which, this being London Film Festival, should hopefully be very soon!)

By the way, if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals feel free to follow me on twitter @berndt2_photo or on facebook at premieresdotco.
