When I last posted one of these journals, I'd come off a day that had not one but TWO premieres. This premiere was a more usual stand-alone one, and it was for Dreamworks' "Puss In Boots". I don't know about you, but while the first two Shrek films were both excellent, in my opinion the last two weren't just poor, they were cynical money-printing exercises. However, based on what I've seen in both trailers and a 15 minute promo reel, this movie actually threatens to be good.
But then again, we all know that whether the movie is likely to be good or whether I'll watch the film is not relevant in terms of whether I'll go to the premiere... (I did go to the premiere of "Water For Elephants" for instance)
It's a brown carpet event, so you know that's special. (Either that, or the construction in Leicester Square has hit a pipe that it shouldn't)
For whatever reason, when I look at this what comes to mind is : "Times are tough even for Batman."
"Tim, I'm here in Leicester Square and all I can say is that if this doesn't catch Selma Hayek's attention, then I'm going straight to the pub. And I'm not getting changed beforehand"
The buildup and preparation continue for this premiere. And for a bit of randomness, feel free to google 'Mayor of Sao Paulo, Brazil'. Randomly, that's who this guy is. Don't ask. I didn't.
"A Giant boots for Puss In Boots. Nice. Wish they'd thought of that for The Rum Diary"
Director Chris Miller might have directed the sub-par Shrek 3, but (a) Puss in Boots looks better, and (b) he has five vocal roles in the movie, too. (c ) He was also the voice of the Magic Mirror in the Shrek films. The lady next to him is Producer Latifa Ouaou. THAT? Is an awesome surname.
"Actually, Yes, Geoff. Being a director means NEVER tucking in your shirt. That's why I took this gig"
No idea who she is, but the Paparazzi were distracted by her, and/or her son's amazing hairstyle.
Antonio Banderas has been in lots of films, and is famous enough that there are seemingly almost always the heads of people in front of him.
Antonio Banderas is also rarely mistaken for shy.
He will get to the $5 he owes me at a later date.
Embarrassing confession : Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz are somewhat interchangeable and indistinguishable in my mind. I hasten to point out that's partially because they're both female and both pretty and both have an accent. It's totally a complement.
I still think that this constitutes a kind of compliment.
...Either fondly remembering her Oscar-nominated role in "Frida" or her participation in the debacle-icious Will Smith western "Wild Wild West".
Serious time for once : I don't mind fellow photgraphers, and I don't mind autograph hunters. And I only partially dislike fans who camp out overnight and use that as justification for holding up giant signs that block views for people six rows behind them. But Autograph DEALERS at this premiere were basically one step up from a pack of animals.
"Okay, stand back, everyone. Antonio's gonna bust some breakdancing moves again"
You know what? Hats *_ARE_* great.
No idea, but I think that the pheasant that died for her necklace (?) did not do so in vain.
Cute interview girl asks "where do you get a hat like that?"
"You lack of a hat disturbs me. Though you are pretty good looking". I'm not sure who said that, or if neither did.
So.. that was another one "For the Archive" more than my enhanced view of my fellow humans who go to these things.
