4 Oct - The 'Perfect Sense' premiere

October 4th, 2011.

Today there were two premieres in London. The big one was "The Three Musketeers" World Premiere - with the cast (including Milla Jovovich from Resident Evil, Orlando Bloom from LotR and PotC, Paul W S Anderson from Resident Evil) and an impressive guest list (the band Take That).

That was the one I oddly chose NOT to attend.... because I went to THIS premiere instead.

Here's how that questionable decision went down:

Just to remind myself of what I'm missing when I say "No" to the big world premiere on the other side of town...

Meanwhile, it's an hour and a bit before Gametime, and here are the tumbleweeds and sounds of crickets chirping at the 'other' premiere. (I guarantee you every time I've had to write the name of this movie I've already momentarily forgotten it... the name is instantly forgettable)

Woo! A small patch of red carpet has been laid!! (meanwhile, across town, they were having mock jousts and duels to fanfares. it's all about making bold call)

This is Ewen Bremner, being tidied up by his Mum (?) and being told to tuck his shirt in and stop poking his tongue out at little Suzie Lee. And have a nice day at school, dear, and don't get into any fights.

Ewen Bremner, ready to face the world. (Actually, I was reminded afterwards that he had sizeable roles in both Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down - he had a stutter and a cute girlfriend in the first, and got left behind and deafened by gunfire in the second.)

Ewan McGregor looks like a man unlikely to be sympathetic to my extended discussion of why George Lucas has lost it, but he might be cheered n a don't-care kind of way to know that I don't blame either him or Natalie Portman for the Star Wars prequels sucking....

Ewan McGregor may actually be coming across to beat me up. (He wasn't - he was coming across to sign some star wars posters held by an enthusiastic fan - one of about seven or eight in attendance at this point)

"You think Jake Lloyd was adorable and Ahmed Best remains George Lucas' best ever casting decision??? Me Too!!!!". Wait.. what just happened? Can Ewan McGregor be THAT good an actor?

A young Anthony Hopkins As Hannibal Lecter appears to be in charge of security at this event. The company that usually does security at premieres wasn't at this one - they were at the World Premiere. This would prove to have interesting (but not bad) consequences later.

Actress Eva Green played Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale and possibly flashbacks in Quantum of Solace. I'd photographed Milla Jovovich before, which was one factor in favour of going to this premiere. I've since found out that Milla wore a slinky ballgown to 'Three Musketeers'. Yeah.... well..

Milla Jovovich 1 : Eva Green 1. This is the kind of dress that makes even ME somewhat interested in who designed it. You know, sort of. I call this photo "Vesper"

Eva Green was also in The Golden Compass which I felt was a very weak movie adaptation, and Kingdom of Heaven (starring Orlando Bloom, currently across town at another premiere) - which I literally fell asleep twice to while attempting to watch on DVD.

Remarkably, this premiere has somehow become a kind of pensive model shoot for a fashion house I'm not familiar with. ....I'm willing to go with it, though.

Fine, one more sultry pose - but only because I'm here, and the camera can do 7 frames per second and you're wearing that dress.

In kind of a rare reversal, rather than cross the road where maybe a dozen fans were standing behind NO barriers - Eva Green indicated that fans could just walk up to her. Fair call - the road was cobblestones and her heels were not suitable. Security were not impressed, but security were amateurs at this one.

I thought this might have been some kind of 'family and friend' or random music-industry guest, but turns out this is director David Mackenzie. So... just as well I choose to keep quiet at premieres!

If I habitually carried a katana with me like the photography/ninja I like to think I am, New York Cap Paparazzi Man might have been in serious danger of having his hand amputated by me at this premiere - his whole 'style' was to wave his thin, bony, T-Rex hand in an attempt to gain stars' attention like they were three year olds in a studio. You suck, Sir!

You're welcome!

Ewan admits : "Fine, I'll say it. I did Star Wars for the pay packet and because I felt that my legitimate acting skillz could absorb the damage". Director David Mackenzie is stunned at the honesty.

The guy on the left is relevant somehow, I'm just not sure how.

So... was my bold call worth it? I think it was. Milla Jovovich is pretty and awesome (and I'll admit to being a fan of the Resident Evil films even if I also like movies like "Lost In Translation" which resembles it in no way other than both have featured Japan), but Orlando Bloom is fairly boring outside of Lord of The Rings. Ewan McGregor, meanwhile, has been great in pretty much every film he's been in.

So there you go. Until next time!

Yes it joins my archive of movie premieres...

The last few of which were:
Johnny English Reborn - Atkinson! Anderson!
Melancholia - Dunst! Hurt!
The Debt - Mirren! Wilkinson! Firth!
Real Steel - Jackman! The Robot Apocalypse!
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - Oldman! Firth! Hardy! Hurt!

By the way, if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals feel free to follow me on twitter @berndt2_photo or on facebook at premieresdotco.
