24 Jul - The 'Horrid Henry' Premiere

July 24th, 2011.

Hello from Sunny London! This weekend, owing to my ongoing and tragically single lifestyle, I was able to take shots at a premiere I solemnly promise I would not otherwise have gotten up relatively early to attend. It was for a movie of a kids show I had never heard of, starring a group of actors (plus one singer) I knew pretty much nothing about, and I have no intention of watching except on a dare with a particularly high pay-off.

Not that this is generally enough to stop me, mind you. Here's how it went down.

Sadly, I have had zero (0) Yellow Cap Guy sightings in London since my return. This is kind of sad for several reasons. Could Yellow Pikachu Beanie Girl become a regular, or is she perhaps merely lost at this particular stretch of Southbank?

Here's a pre-premiere interview on the red carpet. Most interesting to me in this shot is that the interview is being filmed on a Digital SLR camera (in this instance a Canon 7D). When they start filming HD broadcasts on iPhones I'll feel rather silly bringing multiple interchangeable lenses to these things.

Here's a Harry Potter theme Death Eater Tattoo spotted on an autograph hunter's arm. I'm old(er)(ish) and conservative than many, but there is an element of cool in this, I feel. I call it "Voldemort on line Four"  (the dark lord doesn't like to be kept waiting...).

I assume this is Princess Leia and the kid who plays R2-D2 in the Star Wars reboot / prequel. I'm sorry - I wasn't paying attention (edited to add : she's Scarlett Stitt, and he is (or might be) Ross Marron)

This is the kid who plays Horrid Henry in the movie "Horrid Henry". I was all set to scoff, but then I found out that he played "Boy in Church" in the movie *"In Bruges"*, which is actually kind of intriguing. (Albeit primarily because I've been to Bruges)

(R-L) Scarlett Stitt, Theo Stevenson and Ross Marron play (I assume, going off the movie poster, cross-referencing their height, and my keen powers of observation) three kids in the film.

I know you're sitting there reading this "in the future" long after this premiere took place, wondering "whatever happened to the kids from that 'horrid henry' movie?". Well... believe me, I was thinking that barely fifteen minutes after the premiere ends (I assume one will win a nobel prize for chemistry, one will win a couple of Grammys and one will be a major recording star in the rap/rnb genre.. but I'm not telling you which...)

Ah, to be young, with hair like that, and sunglasses like that. Clearly, this is a star in the making based on the professionalism of his Paparazzi poses. (Kind of hilariously he doesn't show up in the Wireimage feed of celebs attending the premiere!)

This is apparently "Dick and Dom". I was told this like I'm supposed to know. All I keep thinking of is "I remember the first time I watched the movie 'E.T.'." It was a special time in my life too.

Matthew Horne is/was Gavin in "Gavin & Stacey". And he also wears cool sunglasses.

Matthew Horne probably he feels that needs to put the cool sunglasses back on.

Nick Moore directed the film and is probably channeling the look that comedian Will Ferrel wants to grow into as he ages. IMDB reveals that he's had quite an illustrious career, as an editor of such film as 'The Full Monty', 'Notting Hill' and assistant editor for 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989. (And I like the sunglasses, too.)

Sunglasses. Reflections. Can't wait to do this with (say) Steven Spielberg one day.

Kimblerley Walsh, arguably the biggest draw of the premiere, is one fifth of the "currently-on-hiatus" band Girls Aloud. She appears nice enough, but her arrival saw an impressive array of "fake" and "forced" smiles for the insatiable paparazzi pack.

Now, I'm no fashion expert, however, right now I believe I'm correct in reporting that my eyes are bleeding. (This is another fifth of Girls Aloud in the form of band member Nicola Roberts.)

The final arriving 1/5th of the Girls Aloud membership brings the total attendance to 60%. This is Sarah Harding, who seems to have changed a bit since the St Trinians 2 premiere which was about a year and a half ago. The dress is much lower-tech, for one thing.

And you're saying that gossip mags actually pay for smiles like this if they're front-on and fully in focus?

So that was another one. Was I proud to have been a part of it? Well... not so much. But the combination of crowd, position, direct sunlight and reflected light is generally good to practice with, so no regrets on that score. And as usual it's another addition to my Archive of Movie Premieres

Until next time!
