11 Aug - The 'Cowboys and Aliens' premiere

August 11th, 2011.

London has a premiere again! And this one was kind of at the outskirts of London (ie not at good ol' Leicester Square) - it was at The O2 (aka. Millienium Dome). It takes a while (and a trek on the Jubilee line) to get there, but it was likely to have a good payback : an under-cover location clear of any forecast rain, an excellent cast rumoured to be in attendance, and ... The Return of Yellow Cap Guy? Interesting...

Cowboys & Aliens. Not sure if I'd ordinarily watch it ... _(Who am I kidding? Cowboys AND Aliens AND Olivia Wilde? I'm there!)_

It's certainly not every premiere that has all the three people on the poster coming to it. (Some dude also had a Japanese sheet "E.T. the Extraterrestrial" poster because Steven Spielberg executively produced Cowboys & Aliens, but I think that was a bit TOO optimistic)

*YELLOW CAP GUY IS BACK!!* (Don't know who Yellow Cap Guy is? Shame on you. Check out the archive - he was a fixture at just about every premiere in London while I was there in 2008-2010) Admittedly he's not wearing his Yellow Cap anymore (I asked him about this and his response was "I told you I don't have it anymore, Boss", which is an odd thing to say since I haven't seen him for about 18months and back then he was still wearing it...)

"I was hoping Shia La Beouf would show up to this, but apparently Harrison Ford is coming!!! What a remarkably fortuitous happenstance!!"

They're here!! The three Majors (and the writer) recreate The Beatles' Abbey Road album cover (I'm still trying to figure out who the guy on the right in the beige suit is).

Roberto Orci was a co-writer and producer of this film. He also co-wrote JJ Abrams' Star Trek. But before I get all gooey and excited, the guy was also the SOLE WRITER of Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen. To which I can only say Hand me that crossbow, Jacques... (who's Jacques? Jacques is the guy who holds a crossbow. I need both hands to hold my DSLR effectively)

Olivia Wilde played the female lead in Tron : Legacy. I will confess though that if you take her out of entirely blue-light scenery, I'd be hard-pressed to recognise her.

Director Jon Favreau directed Iron Man!! (That said, he also directed Iron Man 2 which was mostly just a lot of people shouting in between meaningless action scenes and Mickey Rourke's parrot)

Harrison Ford! He played Han Solo and Indiana Jones, and....  if you don't know who he or they are then.... really?

"Who's scruffy looking? Check out the earring!" Harrison Ford = awesome. It's said that he's frequently grumpy and often disinclined to sign autographs, but today he seemed in a good mood. Very quiet though - didn't hear him say a single word throughout the event.

"I can sign that painting if you want, but I'm not really allowed to sign petitions about shooting people first in movies, sorry" Ahahah. That reference dates back to 1977...or 1997 I guess.

"I'm just going to look like I'm flying casual over there by the cameras now". As I said, I never heard Mr Ford speak at any time during the premiere, so more than usual I'm pretty sure that's not what he said.

Actor Daniel Craig takes one look at me and remembers he didn't bring the $5 he owes me. (AGAIN??)

He shot first. And he knows it.

My first comment upon seeing this poster was "No effing way". Partly as in "that is SOOOOO COOL", but also as in, No effing way does somebody have that many signatures on a Star Wars poster and bring it to a London premiere where it might rain and get crushed. Not without a security detail and a handgun and a perspex tent to stand in. (Then again, yellow cap guy has been known to bring newspapers for people to sign...)

Daniel Craig is the current James Bond, and I've just realised that as much as I like Olivia Wilde (and I do), she simply is not going to be the most photographed-by-me person at this premiere. Or the second most. Or, potentially, third-most.

"No, it's cool. You guys can all keep man-crushing over James Bond and Han Solo and the guy who directed Iron Man. I'll just be pretty and newly single over here, then..." Please do... (..wait... Olivia Wilde is SINGLE??)

Olivia Wilde is/ was also in the TV series House, in case she otherwise looks familiar.

Okay, one more Han Solo shot. I owe it to the guy. He did sign my journal. (in case you're interested, his autograph is kind of scratchy and sort of looks like he's written "Durfry" or something (??))

And here's one last shot of the Director.

And one more shot of Olivia Wilde to get over the whole man-crush thing.

Finally here's Australian comedian Tim Minchin, who showed up without any connection to the film but used the opportunity to do lots of interiews.

Well, that was fun. A much higher calibre cast list than many premieres boast, and the movie sounds interesting. Can there be anything more satisfying than that? Yes, actually - did I mention Han Solo signed my journal? Squeeeee

(Perhaps I should have mentioned to Olivia Wilde that I'm ALSO single? Never mind...)

And finally, does it join my Archive of Movie Premieres? Yes it does.

Until next time!

By the way, if you ever want to know when I post one of these journals feel free to follow me on twitter @berndt2_photo or on facebook at premieresdotco.
