1 Feb - 'A Single Man' premiere

February 1st, 2010.

During the Invictus Premiere yesterday (Clint Eastwood! Morgan Freeman! Matt Damon!), I was told about a premiere the following day at the Curzon in Mayfair, which was a strange thing to learn as it had slipped by all three of the websites I scrutinise for these things.

But, hey. I decided to see if the rumours were true.

And they were! And the attendees at this premiere were certainly noteworthy enough. Here’s how it went down:

One issue with the Curzon Mayfair (on the off chance you’re interested) is that the Paparazzi face each other, which means most ‘civillian’ photographers need to take shots perpendicularly, or at varied angles. And that’s before you factor in the through-traffic from the half a road they don’t close off during the event. It's true! (Did you know I’m also a crime-fighter by day? That's not true)

“A Single Man” I don’t know what it’s about, but I hear there are at least two actors in it, so mathematically it could be one of those ‘clever’ films?

I don't know who this is. But it ended up being the kind of premiere where a lot of people showed up that I didn't know were famous in various fields...like fashion (this, it turns out, should not have been unexpected, as director Tom Ford is also a fashion designer. Who knew?) (most people, it turns out...)

Actor Colin Firth, aka Mr D’Arcy, aka That Guy From Bridget Jones’ Diary. I don’t see it myself, but apparently The Ladies like the guy. They certainly did at the previous premiere of his that I was at, where no less than (2) asked if I'd email them photos I took!

Could members of The Fairer Sex level with me, *please*. Is this kind of duo-tone hairstyle ever, EVER, *EVER* acceptable from anyone, under any circumstances, ever?? Because if it IS acceptable, I might need to rethink my entire attitude to my appearance rather massively.

This is Director Tom Ford (who directed this film). I like to think he got up this morning, showered, shaved, brushed his teeth and…  oh, wait! _Shaved! Nooooo – the trademark stubble: all gone!_ And so he had to call his stylist to put that five o’clock shadow in, and quickly. (Hey, it was a cold night – even thinking keeps you a little warm)

In my view, the lady I now know to be Felicity Jones is fairly sensationally pretty. I thought this... and then more or less recoiled at the thought, because seriously? How OLD is she? (So I check Wikipedia: she's TWENTY SIX? Oh my… I really am not good judging ages)

The distinguished looking gentleman on the left is (I am informed) fashion designer ‘Valentino’. I had to look up his significance, and apparently among many things (like starring as himself in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’) and his trademark red colour, known as rosso Valentino, is a combination of 100% magenta, 100% yellow and 10% black. Call me a gifted analyst if you want, but mathematically, doesn't that add to more than 100%?

Nicholas Hoult impresses the assembled fans’n’paps by stopping to smoke a cigarette that he’s *not actually holding*. And that? *That’s* acting, baby.

It’s all well and good having a savings plan for your retirement, but I don’t really have one. However, if Colin Firth ever gets dumped by his wife/girlfriend I have a suitably ironic picture of him standing in front of "A SINGLE MAN" I can attempt to market for profit. (I’m kidding...)

With Eva Herzegova, my list of supermodels photographed (already including Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Elle MacPherson – albeit blurrily, Twiggy and Lily Cole) rises further. It's a thing to brag about, as long as nobody investigates further.

Eva Herzegova is NOT a single man. Apparently in either sense of the word.

Actress Liz Hurley also showed up, looking very pretty. She’s not in this film, but she clearly wasn’t prevented from entering the cinema by the big security people in the bright orange jackets who would probably cheerfully fracture my collarbone if I tried such a thing. (Even if I was wearing a dress like that…)

Liz Hurley again. I understand the photographers shooting her from in front. I even understand the ones shooting from the side (which is after all what I’m doing), but the ones from the back? It all rather unfair!

And then fashion designer (and daughter of former Beatle, Sir Paul) Stella McCartney showed up. (Based on the movie poster, I wouldn’t really have picked quite this level of fashion industry attendance. I hastily adjusted my Lonsdale beanie so it caught the light just so in case Valentino came over and slapped me for causing offense)

Whoever Luke Evans is, his casually indifferent pose is surely worthy of appreciation.

Holy carp. Is he one of the incidental actors from the hateful ‘Twilight’ films? Or some Romanian count seeking a British bride? Perhaps, and/or who cares... but I will profess at guffawing at the recoil from the simply *awestruck* photographer in the background to the right.

Wow. This guy's resemblance to me is simply *uncanny*. I mean… jacket, two arms, bipedal locomotion, four-chamber heart and binocular vision.... any girl I ask to date me should look at this photo of, erm, "Me" rather than the many contradictory-seeming facebook profile pictures I have...

I'm still partially fixated with this guy. Could he be any more glorious an example of humanity? (This shot is like six frames after the one above – and the photographer is STILL taken aback!)

And so finally, here’s another shot of the gorgeous Felicity Jones, to end this journal on an appropriate note!

Woo! Another for the (possibly) fast-approaching completion "Archive of Movie Premieres"

Until Next Time (cross fingers!)
