November 23rd, 2008.
Less than a week after snapping HRH Queen Elizabeth II herself in Leicester Square, the fans were out again for the Premiere of the Dreamworks animated film "Madagascar : Back2Africa". The forecast for Sunday over the past five days had alternated between possible snow (!!), sleet (!), heavy rain and light rain, and as it turned out the weather limited itself to the latter two. However, rain and premieres are uneasy bedfellows at best.
(note : in 2018 for the 10th Anniversary I was bored and decided to see if it would be possible/worth it to re-edit the photos, taken ten years earlier on a Pentax K10D with a kit lens and cheap prime lens… mixed results…)
With that in mind, here's how it went:
For what it’s worth, here’s a comparison of old vs new edits. Firstly, I edited the EDITED files (I would have made bigger changes had I started with the originals). Secondly, the changes are MUCH more visible when viewed large - looking at them online, it just looks like I’ve desaturated, darkened and reduced over-contrasted. In fact, they’ve been improved, sharpened, had grain removed and had overly garish colours corrected. Still….
And then, somewhat sodden and soaked, I went home for dinner. Not a bad night, all things considered.
The next scheduled London premiere is for Baz Luhrman's 'Australia', however right now it looks like I'll miss it because our departmental Christmas party will be on the same night. Aargh!! Free food or free celebrities... where do my priorities lie??
Finally, a few extra shots I would have put into this journal:
